When someone shares with you they are hurting, they are not asking you to fix it. They just need someone who is willing to listen and support them. God can heal their sadness or their fears or their frustrations. But they first need a friend, not advice. If you think you need to “do” something, your taking to much responsibility. A survey once asked “who do you trust the most to share life’s stuff?” Top of the list was bartenders. They are probably to busy to get into serious conversation…but they listen and nod, they are there as long as you need them. If you start with loving kindness and listening, you show you care. You might be the first one who ever really listened to them.
